Poterium Spinosum: annexed thematic

Poterium Spinosum: for the treatment of diabetes mellitus

Its main symptoms are the reduction of weight, the increased issue of urine, impaired sensation of hunger and thirst. The causes that may facilitate the onset of diabetes can be manifold: familiarity and genetic origins; Excessive dietary intake of carbohydrates, primary and secondary lesions of the pancreas, poisoning or excessive assimilation of diabetogenic substances, damage due to adverse effects of the treatment administered, results of pancreatitis, borne viral infection of the pancreas, the origin of anti pancreatic cells antibodies, abnormal insulin receptors etc. When the pancreas has issues, puts into circulation insufficient amount of insulin causing an alteration of the metabolism of carbohydrates.

In other circumstances, however, it is the body that is unable to use insulin. It is a diabetic subject in which are found glucose values greater than 120 mg% (6.6 mmol / l) and fasting blood glucose levels above 180 mg% (10 mmol / l) at the second hour after oral administration of a determined quantity of 75 g. glucose. Basically, there are two models of diabetes mellitus:

Insulin-dependent diabetes type I or of young age which manifests with obvious clinical signs of polyuria, desire to drink, weight loss, glucosuria and presence of insulin antibodies. Appears most often in young subjects and is associated with the total or nearly destruction of pancreatic beta cells which become incapable of generating insulin, possibly due to viral affection or because the patient's immune system attacks the insulin-producing cells . It is the most severe form of diabetes, which manifests itself prematurely hitting children usually.

Type II diabetes fat or flourishing diabetes of mature age; It is also known as senile diabetes or diabetes independent of insulin. It usually manifests in maturity and is often highlighted by chance in the course of systematic examination of carbohydrate metabolism. It is characterized by intolerance to the carbon hydrates and appears in overweight subjects. In these patients it is almost always present a deficiency of insulin, whose secretion is always reduced compared to that of a normal subject.

The pancreas, in other cases, can provide a normal amount of insulin but for special reasons the body is not able to use them properly to metabolize carbohydrates. In both types of diabetes, much of the sugar found in the body accumulates in the blood and over a certain threshold it is expelled in the urine.

It is easy highlight the prediabetic or diabetic condition by adjusting the plasma insulin levels. This type of diabetes is not evolving rapidly toward ketoacidosis but is in any way exposed to the microvascular complications just like insulin-dependent diabetes. If the increase in blood sugar is modest, the symptoms of the disease do not show explicitly and are able to also noted after years in the various districts of the organism causing damage to the load of small and large arterial vessels. These microcirculatory lesions procure a state of disease characterized by ischemia of the most important organs such as the heart, brain, kidneys, nerves, eyes, who are interested with consequent defects in renal function, cardiac, visual, circulatory and nervous.

The Poterium spinosum is a medicinal plant rich in active ingredients useful in the treatment of diabetes mellitus with hypoglycaemic action known for some time but rarely used for this purpose.
