Nettle: natural ingredient of Mycolor

Dioecious Nettle: root dry extract 0.4% beta-sitosterol

The nettle, used for its purifying and anti-inflammatory characteristics and appreciated for hair care, has been shown to have useful principles to prevent its fall. The parts that we use are the roots and the leaves. The roots include the phytosterols as the betasitosterina that are able to prevent the action of DHT and also contain polyphenols, lignans and lectani, which are substances with antioxidant activity. The leaves are rich in chlorophyll, gallic acid, histamine, acetylcholine, carotene, vitamin C and trace elements (silicon, iron, potassium, calcium, manganese).

Properties of nettle dioica

Dioecious Nettle has an immunostimulant activity. It is observed that the lectin of this drug is a agglutinin with characteristic specific of polyclonal activator of T lymphocy-
tes and in particular those of the thymus and spleen and similar, in some respects, to the concanavalin.

In addition, the lectin hinders the expression of the genes that encode the synthesis of certain cytokines, with intervention of substantial levels of interleukin-3 and interferon-gamma and reduced values of interleukin 4 and interleukin 5. These results are poorly appreciable with the concanavalin.

Further research has documented that the lectin binds to both CD 4 lymphocytes as well as those CD 8, thereby showing that it not distinguishes between helper cells and cytotoxic and those that not all T lymphocytes placed in relation with the lectin multiply really, indicating that there may be two populations of T cells of which one is sensitive and the other not to such substance.

Other studies in vitro on human T lymphocytes demonstrating that the lectin of the nettle binds to both the MHC glycoproteins 1 and particularly to those of MHC type 2 which thus constitute its receptors at the level of the cell membrane of the cells mentioned above.
The receptor-binding lectin nettle determines the activation and growth of T lymphocytes, which does not occur canceling the glycoproteins of MHC type. The processes of stimulation of the activity of T-lymphocytes by the lectin are very similar to those of the so-called bacterial superantigens both bacterial or viral, for which it is permissible that the lectin itself can be regarded as a superantigen.

Active ingredients in the nettle

Nettle contains the following active ingredients: proteins, nitrogenous substances, essential amino acids, histamine, carbohydrates, formic acid, acetic acid, sitosterol, carotenoids, carotenes, vitamins, acid pantotecnico B-2, vitamins C, D, K, E, folic acid, ash, calcium, manganese, magnesium, iron, sodium, potassium, tannins, mucilages, vitamins of the B group chlorophyll, xanthophyll.

Chemical composition

The drug is rich in long-chain polysaccharides established so far five in number, with a molecular weight ranging between 15 and 50 kDa. Contains a lectin rich in acetylglucosamine. The compounds more relevant are than phenolic in C6-C3, aldehydes phenyl-propaniche and alcohols, in particular lignans diaryl-furan and bis-phenylpropanes as the iresinolo, the secoisolariciresinol, the isolariciresinolo, the pinoresinol. Sterols are also well defined and also contains moderate amounts of flavonoids. In the roots are homovanillic alcohol, vanillic acid and vanillin.
