Chemicals and research

The first studies on Muira Puama have been made since 1920. From early research proved that the bark and root of the plant were rich in fatty acids, essential oils such as beta-caryophyllene and alpha-humulene, vegetable sterols, triterpenes such as Lupeol and a new substance that scientists called muirapuamina.

The search started again as from 1960 and lasted until the end of the ’80s. In these studies emerged new substances like sesquiterpenes, the monoterpenes and long chain alkaloids.

The Muira Puama components

The Muira Puama is composed of resinous essences, alkaloids, among which an alkaloid the muirapuamina that, as the yohimbine possesses an activity alpha-blocking and vasodilator such as to motivate the aphrodisiac use.

Other substances contained in muira puama are resinous substances, the mixture of esters, lupeol, behenic acid and B-sitosterol, traces of essential oil, fatty acids, bitter substances, alpha resinic acid, arachidic acid, behenic acid, beta rsinico, beta-sitosterol, campesterol, cerotico acid, coumarin, dotriacontanoico acid, EO, eptacosanoico acid, lignocerico acid, lupeol, melissic acid, acid montanic, nonacosanoico acid, acid pentacosanoico, flobafene, tricosanico acid, acid uncosanico.

Muira Puama activities

The muira puama determines energizing activities, aphrodisiac, anti-rheumatic and anti-stress. It stimulates the central nervous system, neurasthenic.

The muira puama is indicated as a tonic and is used in many psychological and physical forms of sexual impotence both male and female; it is a nerve tonic with aphrodisiac qualities, due mainly to the presence of muirapuiamina, an alkaloid similar to yohimbine, which is provided with remarkable features stimulants at sexual level.

The muira puama or Acanthea is a plant from the Amazon phytotherapeutic tradition known to be an aphrodisiac of uncommon power. The bark and roots of the Muira Puama include a set of resinous substances in nature for toning the nervous system.
