Pharmacological activity

Kudzu: natural ingredient of MycolorThe plant of the Pueraria is also known under the name of “Kudzu”. In ancient Chinese medicine was also called “Ge Gen” and believed to be a very powerful remedy and suitable for the care of a ’wide variety of pathologies but elective, for example, to muscle pain especially in the case of cramps, for high blood pressure and in the case of infectious diseases such as measles or other syndromes such as asthma and respiratory problems. The root of Pueraria has also been used in case of allergies and headaches and to intervene in the abuse of alcohol.

The phyto-complex of kudzu root is well represented and to date have been identified more than 50 chemicals complex. Among these, the most important fraction is described by its isoflavones, especially daidzein and formononetin.

Among the active ingredients are also present other isoflavone glucosides, such as daidzin 4’, 7-diglucoside, puerarin, puerarin-7-xiloside, some flavonoids, coumarins, the allantoine, sterol, arachidic acid and starch.

The puerarin is the molecule present in higher concentrati-
on, followed by daidzin and daidzein. The puerarin is also considered the active principle that qualifying the plant and is a water-soluble molecule, particularly in alkaline environ-
ment.
From the root are acquired standardized extracts that reach concentrations of up to 40%, thus making the pueraria one of the major and more valuable alternatives to the soy isoflavone intake.

The modern use of kudzu root is in fact connected to its content of phytoestrogens which makes it ideal therapy for the treatment of perimenopausal symptoms. In addition, the main quality of kudzu that have been transmitted by tradition are validated by scientific studies, including through the identification of the mechanisms of action that are the basis of many pharmacological activities.

Kudzu: natural ingredient of MycolorIt was found that the different constituents of kudzu,in synergy of action, contribute to an impro-
vement of the microcirculation and the arterial flow because these molecules determine the dilation of the coronary and cerebral vessels, reduce vascular resistance, increase the supply of oxygen to the blood and help to lower the production of lactic acid in heart muscle.

Puerarin show prophylactic activity on disorders of the microcirculation caused by adrenaline, blood pressure, regulate heart rhythm and intervenes on the activity of renin in plasma.Even the other components of the phytocomplex, together with flavonoids, assists in the hypotensive effect assuming that these effects can also be induced by a behavior inhibitory receptors on adrenergic receptors.

Puerarin, together with other flavonoids and the coumarins, exhibites antiplatelet activity. Other features include activity relaxant of kudzu on the muscle and antipyretic, analgesic and antioxidant activity.
The tradition and available studies of use indicate the Pueraria plant as safe and well tolerated. To the usual doses of use does not show toxicity and significant side effects, with the exception of individual hypersensitivity. Do not use in pregnancy and lactation.
