Rose Hip

Rose Hip: natural ingredient of Kalospeed

Rose Hip: natural ingredient of KalospeedThe rose hip is one of the innumerable species of wild roses common in our campaigns, especially in the Apennines. It is easily found all over Europe and form high hedges up to 3-4-meters. We use the leaves and fruits (rose hips).
In fact they can be used all the parts of the plant. For example, the flowers and leaves are used in pharmacopoeia for the preparation of infusions; with the seeds are also prepared pesticides; with the petals of flowers, finally, is prepared rose honey. The most important part of the plant is represented by the fruit (rose hip) which, in effect, is not a true fruit.

Il concentrato totale del principio attivo è ottenuto dai cinorrodonti di Rosa Canina mediante estrazione a freddo (per evitare l’alterazione delle vitamine contenute che sono termolabili) e concentrazione dello stesso.

The total concentration of the active substance is obtained from rose hips by cold extraction (to avoid alteration of the vitamins that are thermolabile) and concentration of the same. It has a high content of Vitamin C. When used in conjunction with other herbs, it facilitates the absorption. It also contains bioflavonoids, or phytoestrogens.

Characteristics and properties

Rose Hip: natural ingredient of KalospeedThe small fruits of Rosehip, wild plant in the forests of tropical America and Europe, appear to be the “natural sources” more concen-
trated in Vitamin C, present in amounts up to 50-100 times higher than the traditional citrus (oranges and lemons) and therefore able to contribute to the strengthening of the body's natural defenses (100 g. rose hips contain the same amount of vitamin C or ascorbic acid contained in 1 kg of citrus fruit). Bioflavonoids, which are present in the pulp and peel of many fruits, exert a synergistic action with vitamin C, favoring the absorption by the body.

Since vitamin C (also known with the name of ascorbic acid) can not be synthesized directly by humans (in contrast to what happens for the other animals) it has to be introduced or with food, if the diet is good and balanced, or with the dietary supplement, in cases where the power supply is deficient in vitamin C, as normally happens.

The western lifestyle, industrial pollution, the influence of electronic appliances and cigarette smoking are all factors that increase our need for vitamin C for which an integration is practically necessary in the life of even the most health-conscious of us!
Other active ingredients of wild rose are: tannins, pectins, carotenoids, organic acids, polyphenols (rose hips). Rich in bioflavonoids.

Property of Rose Hip

Rose Hip: natural ingredient of KalospeedWith vitamins and anti-inflammatory, rosehip optimizes the circulation of the blood. Antiallergenic, is stimula-
ting of the immune system in the respiratory tract in particular of biotype allergic. In these subjects, the hydro etanol glyceric macerate of rosehip restores the ability to give positive immune responses.

Has an important pharmacological action that involve alterations in acute inflammation of the mucous membra-
nes, especially when the components are associated with allergic-asthma. For these properties is an important remedy especially in the prevention of respiratory allergies.

Diuretic, stimulates the elimination of toxins through the urine without irritating the kidneys. Also recommended for inflammation of the kidneys or bladder. Thus eliminating the accumulation of uric acid, also helps gout and rheumatism.
Astringent, thanks to the presence of tannins which have astringent properties, is effective in the treatment of diarrhea. According to Nobel Linus Pauling, taken in large doses, prevent and combat, in case of illness, the cancerous growth.

Cosmetic use of the Rose Hip

The rose hips contain beta-cherotene or provitamin A (antioxidant, anti-free radical) highly recommended to those who want to prevent wrinkles, skin aging, sunburn.
The beauty mask obtained by blending the “fruits” of fresh rose hips (cut, carefully emptied and washed several times to remove small sharp hairs that can stick in the skin) is one of the most effective for its lightening effect, smoothing and toning of the skin.

History and curiosity

The rose hip is well known for its effectiveness in strengthening the body's defenses against infection and particularly against the common cold.

The rosehip has played an important role in the supply of vitamin C to British children during the Second World War to replace the normal source of citrus fruit. At the end of the war the annual harvest was about 450 tons, and the collection of rose hips continued until the early ’50.
The procedure used in the eighteenth century to reduce the fruit to a puree is no longer used, but the benefits in several cases such as kidney problems, bladder and bronchial constipation are still appreciated by herbalists today. The rose hips is widely used in herbal tea with a pleasant taste.
