Ginkgo Biloba

Ginkgo Biloba: natural ingredient of Kalospeed

Ginkgo Biloba: natural ingredient of KalospeedIt is a very popular herb in the world, used to improve the blood supply to the brain, improving memory and the state of consciousness in the elderly and the blood circulation in general. Also used to slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. The ginkgo biloba would also have properties that are inhibitors of 5-alpha-reductase.

It contains terpenes, ginkgolide B inhibitory action of Paf-acether, intercellular phospholipid mediator involved in platelet aggregation, thrombus formation, in 'atherogenesis and capillary leakage, polyphenols, flavonoids (ginketolo, isiginketolo, bilabetolo, ginkolide), with action at all levels of the circulatory system. Vasodilator activity on the arteries, increasing venous tone, increased cerebral circulation. Ginketolo, isiginketolo bilabetolo and act on the cell membrane stabilizing.
Ginkgolide block lipid peroxidation and the formation of free radicals, inhibiting the platelet activating factor (PAF). In cosmetics ginkgo biloba is used for the regularization of sebaceous secretion, dry and devitalized skin, etc.

Characteristics and properties of Ginkgo Biloba

Native to China and Japan, is an old legendary tree of more than 250 million years and which has withstood the worst pollution of the twentieth century and in particular the residues of the atomic bomb in Hiroshima.

The leaf contains effective active ingredients (flavones, flavonoids, anthocyanins leuko) that give it a greater antioxidant power that leads to blockage of the toxicity of free radicals.

It is particularly known for its activity on the venous, arterial, and especially to the brain. Numerous clinical trials have been conducted demonstrating the effectiveness of ginkgo leaves at all levels of the blood circulation.

Other features and properties
  • Improves circulation: by increasing the blood supply to the brain improves mental acuity, concentration, short term memory, and cognitive ability. Therefore useful in loss of memory due to old age, and in the problems of short-term memory. It also helps in cases of tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and dizziness. A better peripheral circulation helps to reduce the feeling of coldness, the intermittent pains and cramps in the legs. Ginkgo is also beneficial in the treatment of diabetic neuropathy, macular degeneration, and other circulatory problems
  • Antioxidant: it is a scavenger of free radicals, inhibiting lipid peroxidation of membranes. Thus protects the brain and nervous system from damage caused by free radicals, which can help control the effects of aging
  • It protects the blood-brain barrier (anatomical barriers and transport systems that control types of substances that enter into the extracellular space of the brain)
  • Decreases the viscosity of the blood by inhibiting the PLATELET-activating factor (platelet activating factor (PAF))
  • Decreases tissue damage during circulatory stress and increases circulation to the extremities
  • Assists in the oxygen distribution and glucose to the brain
  • protects the arteries, veins and capillaries from damage, and helps to regulate their tone and elasticity
  • Also used to help the slowdown of the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.
Recommendations for use of Ginkgo Biloba

Some patients with poor blood supply to the brain may undergo a slight headache and a passenger for the first two or three days. It is a sign that the gingko is working.

History and curiosity of ginkgo biloba

Ginkgo was mentioned for the first time in 2800 BC in Chinese materia medica, Pen Ching T’sao. Gingko is mentioned for use in respiratory diseases, as well as for the benefits on brain function. Traditionally, it has been used for memory leaks.
