Chamomile - Pag. 2

Chamomile: natural ingredient of Humor

Therapeutic use (To be continued ...)

Of notable interest are the bittering and the aromatic characteristics of the plant, as they can facilitate the digestive process. The use of chamomile is thought of as a preventive and therapeutic in cases of ulcer and acute and permanent inflammation of the gastrointestinal mucosa. One of the active ingredients and more specifically the alpha-bisabolol, contrasts with gastric ulceration caused by different agents such as stress, alcohol, indomethacin.

Chamomile is always understood as a vegetable with antispasmodic activity and especially indicated to control events such as intestinal colic and dysmenorrhea. Enjoys an evident anti-inflammatory quality and ulcer protective, antibacterial and antispasmodic.

Active principles of the chamomile
  • Flavonoids: (over 8%) including apigenin and luteolin, many methoxylated flavones and flavonols
  • Essential oil: 0.4-2% not less than 4 mg / kg - bisabolol, bisabolone oxide, bisabolol oxide A, B and C and chamazulene. Sesquiterpene lactones as a matricin, matricarine, desacetyl matricarine
  • Phenolic acids are in force in small numbers on the flower heads and include caffeic acid, anisic acid and vanillic
  • Polysaccharides: three fractions were identified hydro-solubil polysaccharide comprising a fructan polysaccharide on the model of inulin, pectins some type of ramnogalatturano and 4-Oglucuronossilano.
the major pharmacological meanings of the chamomile can be:
  • Anti inflammatory (antiphlogistic); at local level is to be assigned mainly to the presence of flavonoids and in particular apigenin-7-glucoside, which is the most relevant of the flavonoids of the chamomile. Together with luteolin, in addition to the inhibition of vascular events related to inflammation, in a manner symptomatic also contains the constituent cellular inflammatory of the manifestation, namely the penetration of proinflammatory leukocytes into inflamed tissues
  • Carminative activity: to the manner of the other carminative herbs, camomile has the ability to decrease gaseous mixtures enteric. Such a result carminative probably has a link with the antispasmodic action. Considerable are also the bittering and aromatic properties of the plant in order to assist the digestive process.
