FITNESS
TIPS FOR DRIVERS Going for long car journeys? Don't forget these exercises
[from L'Europeo (Italian weekly)] |
What kind of exercises can
be done while driving, without losing concentration? |
There
are a few very short and simple exercises to recommend - they just
take six seconds each and must be done while breathing deeply. Two
in particular are very effective in quickly oxigenating and invigorating
the whole body. |
The
first one can be done by pressing one's back against the seat, propping
oneself up also with the help of one foot (not the one on the accelerator,
of course!). Hold the steering wheel tight, with the left hand on
the 9 o'clock position and the right on the 3 o'clock position.
While keeping your hands still, push against the steering wheel
as if to bring your hands closer, for 6 seconds, while breathing
in slowly. Then stop pressing, and, while keeping the same position,
breathe out, always for 6 seconds. Repeat this exercise six times.
Are
there exercises that can be done also during a break from driving?
Yes,
for instance, while still seated in the car, join your hands together,
with your thumbs touching your breastbone and your elbows raised
as high as you can. Breathe in while pressing one palm against the
other for six seconds, then breathe out without pushing for other
six. |
Or
here's another exercise. Push the palms of your hands against the
roof of the car, as if you wanted to take it off. Count to 6 while
breathing in. Stop pressing and breathe out slowly in the same position,
relaxing your body. It is very useful for blood circulation. |
Here's
one for toning up the muscles of your chest and breast. With one
hand palm up and the other palm down, join your fingertips in a
hook, keeping your arms firm and parallel to the ground, and pull
for the usual six seconds. Then change hands and repeat. |
And
here'a a last exercise. Close your right hand in a fist and push
it against the right temple, pushing back with your head to offer
resistance, while breathing in, and then relax your muscles and
breathe out. Then change hands: left fist against left temple. This
is an exercise that race drivers do - pushing against their helmet
- to strengthen their spine and neck muscles and prevent the damages
of sudden blows while braking suddenly. |

TIPS
FOR SUMMER JOURNEYS |
There
are basical rules for wearing the right clothes and eating the right
food during a long journey by car in the summer. First of all wear
cool and comfortable clothes, then eat light, nutritious and easy
digestible food, and most of all drink lots of mineral water to
restore minerals and liquids that are lost through sweat - while
driving we lose up to 1 and a half liters every hour - and to avoid
the risk of muscular fatigue and cramps. |
Avoid
effervescing drinks and just stick to a bottle of plain mineral
water, into which you can dissolve some minerals which you can find
at the chemist's or in health shops. |
But
if you want an 'extra gear' to face a safer and less tiring drive,
there are specific products that can help you, such as NATURDIETA
ROBUR, a natural food supplement created for the crew of the Italian
ship Destriero for their record-winning Atlantic crossing, and also
used by Formula 1 racing drivers, football players and cyclists.
Its
ingredients are honey, royal jelly, ginseng, guarana, propolis,
pollen, eleutherococcus, spirulina, and wild rose. It increases
muscular tone and physical resistance, and stimulates the nervous
system - thus providing a safer and healthier alternative to coffee.
Just put a bit under your tongue every two or three hours and you'll
be feeling full of energy and more alert. |
