F.A.Q.
WHY DOES OUR HAIR BREAK UP?
Hair possesses a very resistant stem, because the keratins
in the cortex are very strong. If the cortex suffers
damages and the bonds among the atoms in the sulphur
of cystin (an aminoacid that constitutes the strong
keratin) are broken, hair becomes fragile.
WHY HAVE WE DRY HAIR EVEN IF WE HAVE A GREASY SKIN?
Dry hair represents a damage at the stem and that the
cuticles raised up. Dry hair is delicate it is not a
problem due to the production of sebum.
IS HAIRLOSS NORMAL?
All suffer hairloss because there is an continuous exchange.
Generally, hair falls after that the follicle has already
produced a new hair. The loss from 10 to 50 hair a day
(70-350 a week) is a normal thing. There are some seasonal
periods during the year, when hairloss is higher: in
Autumn and, in some subjects, in Spring . The reason
is not well known yet but we suppose that the autumn
loss is due to the exposures to the solar rays in the
summer.
WHEN WE MUST TO WORRY ABOUT?
When the daily loss overcomes 100 or 700 hair a week
and when the loss continues for some weeks. When you
begin to see the scalp. We have to remember that, when
this situation is pointed out, it means that we already
have the reduction of 50% in the stricken zone.
THE TELOGEN EFFLUVIUM (Increased hairloss)
The telogen effluvium is a frequent dysfunction and
normally with a brief duration (3-6 months). Sometimes
the problem arrives periodically and in some people
it becomes chronical for some years. Hair that falls
has a small whiteswelling that corresponds to the root.
The telogen effluvium can be caused by different factors
and it is evident after three months from the cause
that created it .
Possible reason of telogen effluvium:
ultraviolet rays
Stress
Diets
Smoke
High fever
Anemia
Post-partum
Surgical interventions
Serious illnesses
Medicines
The sun and the ultraviolet lamp,
sun lotions cause the hairloss.
The sun frequently causes the autumn hairloss ; for
this reason it is advisable to protect, in the summer,
the scalp, above all, if your hair is growing thin.
Therefore it is important to put on a hat during the
outside activities.
Smoke
Hair is damaged by the smoke ; a recent study has demonstrated
that the passive smoke causes the increase of hairloss.
Stress.
One of the most frequent causes of chronic telogen effluvium
is the stress and the problem is increased because a
lot of anxiolytic and antidepressive medicines cause
as collateral effect, the increase of hairloss.
Anaemia. The iron lack and the anemia are frequent causes
of hairloss especially for the woman. The predisposed
subjects should to verify with regularly the iron levels
in the blood (sideremia) and the iron deposits (dosage
of ferritin) so that to foresee the loss of hair.
Diets.
Any kind of diet, even the most balance, cause, together
with the slimming an increase of hairloss.
Medicines.
A great quantity of medicines as. the anticoagulants
and antidepressives cause, as collateral effect, hairloss.
Also the medicines used for the cholesterol, antiviral
medicines have some side effects. When you interrupt
the use of the contraceptive pill, can follow a loss
of hair similar to that that introduces him after a
post fallen partum. That hairloss is due to the hormones
in the pill that reduce the normal follicle metabolism
and they prevent the physiological hairloss.
Post partum.
Hair growth is positively influenced by the estrogenic
hormones and it is for this reason, that hair falls
rarely during the pregnancy, even if, two or three months
after the birth , hair that won't be fallen out, will
fall totally. To increase this situation we can also
add a possible lack of iron (non difficult event in
this period, especially if the mother nurses). Generally
the post partum telogen effluvium turnes out , spontaneously,
after two or three months.
HOW CAN I UNDERSTAND IF
HAIRLOSS HAS A NORMAL CYCLE OR NOT?
The simplest thing to do is to count daily hair that
falls during the washing and when you brush them . You
can even talk with a dermatologist that can effect domr
specific examinations as the "pull test" and
the thricogramma.
WHAT DOES ALOPECIA MEAN?
The alopecia is a common term that describes thinning
hair or hairloss. There are different kinds of alopecia,
according to the causes; some alopecies that are curable
while others are not.
DIFFUSED
ALOPECIA, LOCALIZED ALOPECIE
Alopecia areata Telogen effluvium
Androgenetic Alopecia Alopecia areata
Traction Alopecia Alopecia caused by medicines
Cicatricial Alopecia Timea capitis (the hair's mycosis)
The correct treatment of alopecia depends on a correct
diagnosis but even is due to is due by other parameters
as age, sex, gravity
