Eucalyptus,
native of Australia, has been introduced to Provence at the
end of the 18th
century, in order to drain the marshy areas.
In medicine, only the leafs of the "globulus" specie
are used, as antiseptic for the respiratory system.
Their activity is due to the rich presence of essential oils,
containing a great quantity of eucalyptus.

The
anti-bacteria and anti-mycosis properties of the eucalyptus
essential oil have been showed, just as the anti-virus properties
(particularly against flu).
Another interesting property of the eucalyptus leafs is the
ipo-glycaemic ones, so that they can be used as help in anti-diabetic
treatments.

Eucalyptus (from the Greek words "well" and "cover", referring
to its flower's particular structure), is genre of di-cotyledon
plants, part of the myrtle family.
Only about 600 species are part of this family, most of them
present in the damp Australian and Tasmanian forests, territories
with a huge rainfall.
Eucalyptus has an antiseptic, deodorant, stimulating and anti-irritating
action. It is emmenagogo, spasmolitico,
vermifugal. It's used against bronchitis,bronchial
and skin diseases, dermatosi.
